In 2013, Pennsylvania man Chris Reynolds opened his PayPal account and saw a balance of $92,233,720,368,547,800 over $92 quadrillion briefly making him the richest person in history, at least on paper. Normally earning under $1,000 a month selling car parts, he was stunned by the astronomical figure.
PayPal quickly corrected the error and issued a lighthearted apology, removing the accidental fortune. Reynolds joked that if it were real, he would’ve erased the national debt.
For one surreal moment, an ordinary man out-weighed the world’s wealthiest thanks to a digital glitch that turned his account into the stuff of legend.
